My career in safety began with a second chance. Over 50 years ago, a man named Gordon Jones saw potential in me that others missed. At the time, I was a high-school dropout with a troubled past, having served two years in Vietnam after being given a choice between the military and prison.

The Cost of Standing Up

Returning to civilian life, I worked in factories and witnessed how easily worker safety could be overlooked. I chose to stand up, serving as a union steward and safety representative. That commitment cost me my job, but it cemented my resolve.

An Open Door

Starting over, I found my way back through a simple act of faith. When I told Gordon Jones my story, he offered me an opportunity to learn. That open door changed my life, leading to the career I have today—one built not on formal degrees, but on hard-earned, real-world experience.
