Course Description

Workplace violence is a serious issue that affects all business sectors and occupations, impacting the safety and security of every employee and employer. This course covers what workplace violence is, the behaviors associated with it, sources of violent behavior in the workplace, and relevant prevention legislation. Upon completion, participants will understand who is affected by workplace violence, why it is an important workplace issue, the broad definition of workplace violence with respect to the types and sources of behaviors, and the legal obligations of employers to protect employees from workplace violence.

Learning Objectives

This course enables participants to identify warning signs, behavioral indicators, and risk factors associated with potential incidents of workplace violence. It covers the development and implementation of workplace violence prevention programs, reporting procedures, and threat-assessment strategies. Participants will also learn to apply de-escalation techniques, communication skills, and response actions to manage aggressive or potentially violent situations, as well as support emergency planning, incident documentation, post-incident response, and ensure compliance with OSHA and industry guidelines.
