In 2010 alone, OSHA reported 7,069 scaffolding violations at job sites across America, with 37 workers dying in scaffold-related incidents. This makes scaffolding the second-most cited violation behind fall protection and highlights the critical need for proper safety training in this area of work. A competent person is required on every job site. This individual must have sufficient experience and/or knowledge to recognize scaffold hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and have the authority to shut down the worksite until any hazards are corrected. The competent person should be the most knowledgeable on-site regarding scaffold safety. The IASHEP Scaffolding for the Competent Person course ensures that students receive all the proper training required by OSHA for competent persons under standard 29 CFR 1926.451. Course Description: In this four-day course, participants will acquire a comprehensive understanding and practical application of OSHA Standards 1926.450–454. They will become familiar with, and learn to analyze, letters of interpretation. The course content provides a broad awareness of inspection requirements and focuses on identifying and minimizing hazards associated with scaffolds.
